ÿþKATEESACKHOFF.com "Ask Katee" Part Three Transcription by Elizabeth White Considering the characters that you have played, what type of role would interest you most and/or what would be the most challenging role/emotion to play? SpankBuck Katee: I think some of the most emotional characters to play are mothers. And I think challenging for myself because I m not a mother. So I think that those are the roles that i'm drawn to. You try not to age yourself too much though. So, because I m in my late, late, late, late twenties, [laughs] you know, you don t want to give yourself a ten year old, because it ages you too much. So, I m at that fine line where I m trying to hold on to my youth on screen but also play roles that are emotionally more challenging -- which you don t find a lot of 20 year olds to be emotionally challenging. Ya know, I m an action whore. I love it. I was raised on the stuff so for me, to go and be in Lara Croft or to be in the new Alien or to, ya know, do movies with guns, makes me happy! [laughs] And I ve realized this in shooting the pilot of Lost & Found. I was bored without a gun. Ya know, I need guns. It makes me happy. Because that is so not me in real life. I m such a 'fraidy cat and I m scared of everything and I m scared of guns. So, it makes complete sense for me to go to work and want to play with that kind of stuff. I m gearing my career towards a little bit more action, which, ya know, from my fans I get the impression that that s what they want to see me do anyway. So I think we're on the same page. Hi Katee! You have said numerous times that you hated your character on BSG and that you couldn t identify with her. What are your thoughts about people, especially the younger generation of viewers, who do tend to identify with Starbuck? Peace and Blessings, Dawn Katee: I created Starbuck as this woman who is completely multi-dimensional, and out of my insecurity in playing her. And every time I decided I didn t like her, I gave her more insecurity because my own insecurity was coming through. It made this woman tragically amazing. Ya know I think that people -- she could ve screwed up, which she did, over and over and over again and you forgave her because you felt her pain. And I think that it's just one of those things that just happened to work, but yes I didn t like her. At times I thought that she was spoiled and that she was a brat and she put other people s lives in danger, and that she should have grown up a little bit faster and thought about other people besides herself which is where she ultimately ended. And I like that younger people look up to a strong woman. I think that there are few on television. I think that every pilot season we get more and more but then they take away the good ones, so, when the younger fans look up to her that s fantastic. I had a role model of a Starbuck type person as in my mother. I wish that all little girls had that, because that s something that s such a fantastic gift to have; is a strong mother as a role model. Katee, This is very serious. Being a member of your SPank army I take my name very seriously. Should I remain Spanktastic or change it to Spankenstein? Which would annoy you less? P.S. Your nose is ridiculously awesome. Spanktastic Katee: Fantastic. I love that you love my nose. I almost had a nose job when I was 17 to make it go away so it's interesting that someone loves it so much. [laughs] I -- ya know, go ahead and name yourself any kind of Spank you want to name yourself. I would never be annoyed by anyone s name unless they called themselves The Original Spank or Little Spank or Ma Spank or any name that the Sackhoff family could have originally had, then I m gonna come after you and hunt you down. So, [laughs] name yourself anything you want. I tend to not understand Spankenstein. I mean I understand that it's like this whole Frankenstein thing but unless you ve, ya know, been stitched back together and brought back to life, I can t understand why you would ever call yourself that -- so Spanktastic's probably better, in my opinion.
